PROGRAMS & SERVICES

Our services are provided by a team of multi-disciplinary professionals with a broad scope of expertise in the field of child & youth mental health. There are no fees for any services or programs offered at our Agency. For more information about accessing our services, please contact an Intake Worker at 519-337-3701.

Single Session Therapy

The Single Session Therapy service provides quick access to therapy services for children and youth up to 17 years of age, and their families. Individuals and/or family members meet with a trained therapist, providing the opportunity to voice their concerns, identify a plan to resolve them or support them in reducing their impact. Every Single Session is unique and is strength-based and solution-focused.

Brief-in-3 Program

We provide short-term, focused support for children and youth, and their families, to address specific emotional, social, and/or behavioral concerns.

Counselling and Therapy Programs

We provide counselling and therapy services for children and youth, and their families, to focus on reducing more severe emotional, social, behavioural, and/or self-regulation problems.

Concurrent Disorders

Utilizing a harm reduction approach, we provide counselling for young people up to 18 years of age who are experiencing a mental health issue and a substance use concern. We also offer support to parents/guardians of these identified youth.

Family Solutions

We provide an intensive in-home intervention program for families. This is a 12-week program. Through goal-oriented home visits, our Team will work with you to ensure that your family receives the most suitable support.

Quick Response Program

Quick Response is a collaboration between Sarnia Lambton Children’s Aid Society and St. Clair Child & Youth Services. We support Parents/Caregivers and Youth 12-17 who are experiencing high levels of conflict and are at risk of placement breakdown or homelessness. Ongoing conversations between program partners identified a growing community need to support clients whose needs may be best served by a multidisciplinary approach, taking into consideration child protection concerns and mental health.

Day Treatment

Is for Youth who are currently disengaged from school due to mental health reasons. Youth must be willing to participate in programming to assist them in returning to home school or the next best option. Offers individual support from the classroom teacher and an educational assistant and mental health support from Day Treatment Counsellor. The classroom is located at Northern High School. Day Treatment has a primary focus on mental health.

Crisis Services

This is a short-term service dedicated to direct referrals for children/youth ages 6-17 years old from Bluewater Health and the SCCYS Intake. The service is a crisis intervention provided in a safe therapeutic environment. The therapist will use a solution-focused approach and will build on the family’s capacities/strengths to ensure the safety of the child/youth. Should further services be required, your clinician will consult with you regarding the various options and facilitate the process.

Infant and Child Development Program

This family-centred program offers a range of services for children birth to school entry who are experiencing, or at risk for experiencing developmental delays. Through home and community visits, we provide support, information, and early intervention services.

Early Years Mental Health Services

We provide a range of support services to parents/guardians and their children from infancy to 6 years of age who are experiencing emotional, and/or behavioural difficulties. These may include brief services, counselling, and intervention, groups, or workshops.

Mental Health in Childcare

This program is in collaboration with Pathways Health Centre for Children to support the mental health special needs of children up to school entry, who are attending licensed childcare. We meet with the child, parents, and their child’s team in the community childcare and/or home to identify ways of understanding and responding to the child’s mental health needs within the family and childcare context.

Outreach Program

The Outreach Program offers a variety of prevention mental health programming and support for families, infants, and children in the neighbourhoods surrounding the YMCA Resource Houses.

St. Clair EarlyON Child and Family Centre

St. Clair EarlyON Child and Family Centre is located on the lower level of the Lochiel Kiwanis Community Centre 180 College St. N, Sarnia, ON)

St. Clair EarlyON is a free drop-in program for parents and caregivers with children from birth to six years, to come to stay and play at the Centre. We understand that the first six years set the stage for a child's lifelong learning, behaviour, and health and create programming accordingly. Parents and caregivers have the opportunity to connect with other parents and get information about their children's development and about community resources.

The service is a crisis intervention provided in a safe therapeutic environment. The therapist will use a solution-focused approach and will build on the family’s capacities/strengths to ensure the safety of the child/youth. Should further services be required, your clinician will consult with you regarding the various options and facilitate the process.

Dual Diagnosis Program

We provide an assessment and time-limited treatment program for children and youth 6 to 18 years of age with specific special needs and who are experiencing mental health-related difficulties. We also offer support to caregivers. Our program may be a good fit for you if you are the parent/guardian of a child/youth diagnosed with a mild to moderate developmental disability or autism.

Youth Justice Services (Positive Options, YMHCW, Sec 34)

We provide the Youth Court Mental Health Worker (YCMHW) Program and the Positive Options Program to identified youth who are involved in the justice system.

Youth 12 to 17 years of age may be referred to our YCMHW program. We offer a mental health identification and consultation service to youth and their families, Crown Attorneys, defense/duty council, and Youth Court Judges. We intervene at the earliest possible stage of the youth’s involvement with the justice system to determine suitability for diversion.

Through the Positive Options Program, we assess risk factors that contribute to the youth re-offending under the law and provide assistance to help reduce that risk.

TAPP-C Fire Assessment

We provide a comprehensive program for children/youth 4 to 18 years of age who are engaged in fire play and their parents/guardians. The program is provided in conjunction with local fire departments and aims at reducing the risk of further fire behaviour.

Psychological Assessment

Psychological assessment, diagnosis, and consultation are provided by a Registered Psychologist or Psychometrist (under the supervision of a Registered Psychologist). These assessments/consultations are designed to provide advice or direction with respect to the diagnosis, prognosis, and/or treatment of a child or youth with identified mental health needs. This specialized consultation or assessment may serve as a component of the client’s service plan.

St. Clair Child & Youth Services provides specialized Psychological Assessment and diagnostic services to children and youth ages birth to 18 years of age as well as consultation to allied multi-disciplinary professionals working to assist children, youth, and families.

Groups

We provide several goal-focused counselling and early intervention groups designed to meet a range of needs for children, youth, and families.

Workshops

We provide psychoeducational workshops on a variety of topics that are also available for children, youth, and families.

Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT)

We provide Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) to youth and their parents/guardians for treating a wide range of disorders. DBT will help you acquire mindfulness; distress tolerance; interpersonal effectiveness; and emotional regulation.
