Self-Management Group

Self-Management Group

The Self-Management Group offered at St. Clair Child & Youth Services provide an opportunity for children and youth with explosive behaviour to learn new skills to assist with regulating behaviours by decreasing overall frustration levels. Using the “Leaky Brake” philosophy, the group strives to increase  awareness, understanding, accommodation, and management of ‘leaky brake’ disorders in the children and families we support.  “Leaky Brake” behaviours may include Tourette Syndrome and other tic disorders, Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder, Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, Disruptive Behaviour Disorders or Sensory Integration Challenges.

This group is based on the Collaborative Problem Solving Model, ‘Kids do well if they can do well”.

Groups consist of 10-12 sessions with both child and caregiver to learn skills and strategies to reduce interrupting behaviours.
